• If your .htaccess was writable we could do this automatically, but it isna€?t so these are the mod_rewrite rules you should have in your .htaccess file. Click in the field and press CTRL + a to select all.

I get that when I try to change my permalinks. Now, I don’t even have a .htaccess file. I don’t know much about them. So I put it in /public_html/ or /public_html/journal/ or does it possibly go in my themes folder? What needs to be in the file other than what wordpress tells me to put in?

Thanks a lot guys, you’ve been a great help in my past 2 topics.

  • nothing has to be in it except what WP tells you, if you chmod (set it’s permissions) to 666, you don’t have to have a thing in there. WP will do it all for you. It goes in the main folder your WP install is located, so if that’s the root (/public_html/) it goes there, or if it’s in /journal – that’s where you put it.

Make sure after you upload an htaccess, you go back and set your permalinks again, so WP will write the necessary code into the htaccess for you.
