help with excerpts

I’ve slowly been teaching myself to use WordPress by rebuilding my html site that I built nearly 20 years ago. Unfortunately, I never kept the site current with the evolution of the web. I’ve rewritten each page in WordPress and had the site converted for nearly a year. I’ve been learning slowly but I’d like to do something and I just can’t figure out how.

I’m using the Twenty Twenty theme and everything is up to date

On a category page, search results page or any page that generates an excerpt, the featured photo and the excerpt text show up just fine. Each excerpt ends with […] and there is no hyperlink to the full article – only the title of the page is hyperlinked.

Is there a way to add a hyperlink to the […] after the excerpt?

Also. Is it possible to change the […] to Read More or Continue Reading?

I tried using the Advanced Excerpt plugin but it causes the site to freeze up on any page that produces excerpts so I’ve removed the plugin.

This seems to be the default excerpt style for the theme and I’d rather not switch to a different theme.
