• Hello! I’m having some trouble with comment moderation.

I have my settings setup right now so that nothing needs to be done before a comment appears. Meaning, I don’t have to approve it, the commenter doesn’t have to have been a previous commenter.

I basically have the most allowable settings, yet comments are still being held for moderation. I also have it setup to email me when this happens, but I’m not always getting the emails. So, I’m going to write a new post and I’m finding several comments awaiting moderation. And they are normal comments, not spam… no links, so I don’t get it.

    Can anyone help please?

Check your moderation list, and remember that ever parts of words will be checked. So, if you put “ass” (sorry about that) in your moderation list, it will hold a comment mentioning “passenger” for moderation.

I have nothing in my list though?

Hm, that’s odd. Are you absolutely sure there isn’t maybe a single space in there?

Also, have you set “Hold a comment in the queue if it contains [x] or more links.” to be higher than 1? WordPress considers the Website included in most comment forms to be 1 URL, so if that’s set to 1, any commenter who has provided a Website will be held for moderation.

Ohh… I have it set to 2! That’s what It suggested so I went with it… maybe I should switch to one?

Or actually, maybe I should make it to zero, since 1 will still get held?

No, don’t go lower. That would be comments with more than 0 links held for moderation, aka everything. ??

    Try something higher, like 5.

Oh, gotcha. I still wonder why they were held even with 1? I had it set at 2… and some were held. So their website= one link, wonder what the other was? Hmm. Either way, I hope this helps- thanks again for the suggestion!!!

Also, at Settings -> Discussion, make sure that both boxes under “Before a comment appears” are unchecked.
