Help with 123-Reg and WordPress set up

  • Hi All,

    Very novice question here – I thought that buying a word press web hosting package with 123-reg and a domain through them would be easy. I have two questions:

    1. It seems everything is up and running however I cant seem to edit anything on the theme I have chosen? Its just letting me edit the header. Ive chosen a simple one page scrolling responsive template theme ‘Onetone’.

    2. My website is also live and showing the template im working on and I cant find anywhere to make it a draft? I need a ‘website coming soon’ holding page but I don’t know where to start! I cant have a half built website up live on the web..

    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Firstly, go to your plugins section, and search for one called Maintenance Mode.

    Activate that, it will then not show your full site.

    Secondly, Where are you trying to edit from? If you go to “Appearance >> Theme Options” or something similar, do you not have an options panel?

    Hi, thanks for the response! I don’t actualky, on my plugins tab I only have access to 5 plugins:

    Akismet
    Hello Dolly
    Jetpack by WordPress
    WP-Cron Control
    WP Crontrol

    Should I have another option?

    You need to install a new plugin. At the top of the screen in the plugins section, there is a button that says “add new”. Click that and then in the search bar on the right, search for maintenance mode. You need to install that plugin and then it will go into that list.

    You then need to activate it from that list

    With regards to your theme – on the left of your dashboard, there will be an “appearance” tab. When you hover on that, do you not get a “theme options” or “onetone options”?
