Well, this morning I woke up with quite a surprise: after asking my WordPress hosting party to connect my recently built WP website with the domain I registered, they suddenly replaced my WP files by the empty domain files… and with that erasing everything that I built these last few months! Grrr…. and guess what: they didn’t inform me about their actions and also didn’t make a back up of my WP page. Unfortunately all my back ups were made in the WP environment. So now all my work seems to be lost… or not? Is it still possible to retrieve the original WP files / page that I backed up within the WP environment, using UpdraftPlus? I would jump for joy if I could…

    My domain: https://www.italiapertutti.nl
    My WP domain: https://www.stefawq95.ninetyfive.axc.nl/wp-admin/

I hope that someone can help me out…

    Many thanks,

    Stefano

  • If the data base is still there so is your data.

This is how it should be moved.

Well… I can’t seem to find the database anymore. All I see are empty folders, now connected to the new https://www.italiapertutti.nl domain… where once the data of the WP domain used to be ??

That domain throws a 404 error.

You should be looking for the data base with the control panel provided by your host. Look for MySQL.

Ok! I think I found something… and now?

How do I get this database / these codes back into WordPress? So I can work with it again??

First make a backup of the data base. First make a backup of the data base.

Look at your config.php file. Does it show the location of the new data base?
Go to the new data base and make a backup. and make a backup.

Export the database. Then go to the new data base and import it.

I’ve downloaded the database to my laptop… Is that good enough as a backup? Now I see the restored content files in the public_html folder under File Manager in Direct Admin. But I still can’t seem to get the WP CMS working and accessible…

You need to export it and then save that file.

What happens when you try to log in?

Ok, exported and saved it… take a loot at https://www.italiapertutti.nl now. it shows an empty blog. Now it’s just a matter of getting the right data here. But I had a password error while loggin in, so I need to wait another 15 minutes to try again (or maybe I can change the login limit somewhere…)

Update: all has been recovered and we’re back online again… thank god! Many thanks for helping me on my way a bit, KMessinger! Case closed.
