    My hosting company, Site5, quickly resolved the issue by creating a fresh .htaccess file. The plugin added some code that was not compatible with what I had added as suggested by another caching plugin.

    Site5 said I could reinstall the plugin and it should work. So I did…. nope. Still got the same Internal Server Error 500.

    Replace the code W3TC added to the .htaccess file with default and now back up again.

    So, plugin must have a nasty bug or doesn’t play well with Multisite.
