Help w Downloadable Music, DVDs and eBooks

  • Hi,
    I want to offer downloadable goods in one of my sites but I’m a newbie with downloadable products and need some tips/suggestions. I want to offer downloadable music, DVDs and ebooks. We’re already selling physical products using wp-ecommerce (getshopped).
    – What format should the downloadable goods be in? I figured the music files can be mp3s and ebooks PDFs but what about DVDs? I know nada about video. :/
    – Are there specific hosting requirements we should consider? What might be a good host for this purpose? We’re moving from the worst of the worst. Can you guess?
    – What about security? Will my ecommerce plugin be enough to protect the files? We’d love it if we can prevent sharing or copying as well. I saw another plugin has a “PDF stamper” feature – sounds interesting. Any other ways to do something like that?
    Any tips will be greatly appreciated!!

    Maybe a plugin besides wp-ecommerce is better for stores with digital files??

    DVD’s can be huge. You may want to convert them to .mp4 files if they are not .mp4 already, then upload. You can find converters commercial and free by google. Check to see if wp-ecommerce has the upload feature built in. Zencart is also free and is supposed to work for that type as well, although I am having difficulty with the set-up(I haven’t had time to check the support forum there). In Zencart, you do have to ftp the files first to your site and then link through the cart.
