Help! Styling Different Colored Category Backgrounds

    Scoured the internet for awhile trying to find an answer. I am using a theme and added a custom category box on top of the month and comments to the right hand side of each post. However, I want to make it so the categories “news”, “coverage”, “press releases” and “social” all have a different background color.

    I don’t want to use nth_child because it’s not cross browser compatible. I also tried using .category-category_name with no effect.

    For now I put a background blue color for “.sev-category”, but I want it to change according to whatever category is posted.

    You can see the styling boxes to the left of the post. I want to change the top ‘category’ box color for each. Thank so much for your help!

    What theme are you using? Where did you download it from?

    Thanks for the reply esmi. The theme is called bigbang from themeforest. The author stopped providing support on it. Any help would be great!

    We do not have access to, nor do we support, commercial themes as you paid for support when you bought the theme. It is not our place to keep theme vendors in business or deprive them of any income that they may derive from support services.

    Hey Esmi thanks for the response.
    I think the theme is really irrelevant. I just want to know for both future and learning experiences how to stylize the background on the text for the different categories. Any help would be appreciated.

    I think the theme is really irrelevant.

    It really isn’t irrelevant and many of the theme’s have totally different CSS, javascript, etc. and aren’t modifiable well meaning react poorly to changes.

    If you are looking for support of that theme then your best bet is to seek help via the author. That’s something that you paid for when you purchased that theme.
