    Hello,

I am new to WordPress but I have been struggling with customizing the free themes and getting it to look the way I want it to look. I only know basic html and this process have been extremely frustrating. I don’t want to give up on having a blog. I have heard about different premium themes like Thesis which I am considereing purchasing. Basically, I just need to know will it be much easier having a premium theme vs a free theme. Which one is easier and better for someone who does not know codes?

You cannot generalise commercial and non-commercial themes, try looking at themes individually and compare advantages/disadvantages.

Note: Commercial themes aren’t supported by www.remarpro.com forums, therefore you’ll have to rely on the vendor for your support.

No, commercial themes won’t necessarily be any easier to use than a free theme. As Andrew said, it just depends on the theme. If you are having difficulty, I’d suggest learning more about WP, HTML and CSS — that’s really the only way to move up the learning curve — in addition to simply spending time using WP and trying things. There are LOTS of great tutorials, books, videos, etc. out there on all those topics.

You could also consider using WordPress.COM — as they do some of the heavy-lifting, backend work for you so that might reduce the number of things you have to deal with.

If all you know is basic HTML, then you don’t want to waste your money with a custom theme. You’ll only be frustrated. Instead, try searching for a theme with a custom CSS feature, or learn to use a child theme, so that you can make changes easily and undo them easily if (i.e., when) you make mistakes.

Thank You all. I found a great free theme with wordpress that is newbie friendly.
