• Up to now, I had probably 10 plugins running on my site, incling SEO optimization, Akismet, polls, etc., and everything was working fine. Now, suddenly, when I try to edit a post or create a new one, I get a blank screen on the edit page. What gives?

I disabled all of my plugins and added them back one by one, and I’m left with only four that won’t kill editing. And I’m unable to replace the deleted plugins, because now, ANY new plugin I attempt to add disables my editing ability.

Can anyone help? I’m running wordpress 2.8.2 on a Mac (Leopard operating system.) and the problem occurs whether I’m using Safari or Firefox.

  • It sounds like 1 of your remaining 4 plugins could be the real culprit. Try swapping them out and installing a new plugin to see what happens.

I disabled them all and am now down to just three plugins, but as of now, posting and editing won’t work with any plugin that is a spam fighter or poll. Could that be the sign of a virus? A virus seems unlikely since I’m on a Mac, but since everything was working fine until yesterday, I’m worried that something has corrupted the code itself. Is there any way to check that???

IOW I have tried disabling ALL the plugins and just loading an anti-spam or poll plugin, and it by itself disables editing. (When I go to edit, the right sidebar is there, w/ tags, categories etc, but no title, body, etc.)

Have you tried switching to the default theme?

    Yep. that didn’t work either.

At this point I don’t know what to do, since I’m basically unable to protect my comments from spam.
