• Hope someone can help me at my wit’s end.

I’m trying to import a wordpress export file and getting this error

Before you can upload your import file, you will need to fix the following error:

Unable to create directory /usr2/home/strictlyanything.com/htdocs/wp-content/uploads/2009/07. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

This is on a self hosted site and not sure what to do to resolve this.

    Second part

After all changes were done to my blog after database corruption, I am still getting an overhead on wp_options and wp_comments which causes the site to basically become invisible and cannto be found on search.

    Third part

I want to import an export file but it is over 16mb and wanted to know how to do this.

I have changed hosts after the initial corruption, but the backup files were damaged beyond repair, however the export file is in tact with data. There are over 1000 posts sitting in it that I want back on the blog – it represents nearly 3 years work.

I did a full re-install of wordpress and changed hosts, restored what I could from backup and am continuing to get these errors.

Please help me, I’m really lost as to how to resolve this and get my data back and to correct the fault.

    Thanks in advance.

chmod all of these folders 777 to do the import/export
chmod back to 755 when done

    overhead on wp_options and wp_comments
have you tried running an “optimize” or “repair” on these tables?
have you got all plugins disabled?

usually on importing large files, you just keep running the import routine until you get it all – the import picks back up where it left off before

    Hi Samboll

I tried changing the permissions already and no go.

Also ran optimise and restores several times with repeat errors, has got me baffled.

    Thanks

in the upload folder I only have js_cache and index.php not 2009/07 but I changed all the permissions previously anyway and got a huge fault which the server/host had to fix for me.

I only know enough to get me into huge trouble :s

there should not be an index.php in the upload folder – this cause huge problems

    Hi Sam,

The host (hostgator bless their cotton socks) have fixed the upload for import path.

So now I’m left with trying to import a file bigger than 64mg (not 16 which I incorrectly put earlier) and I’m still left with the perplexing table fault. Would the index.php file be interfering with the tables?

Thanks so much for your help, I really appreciate it.

just checked and hostgator have fixed the index issue (gotta love those guys)

export file is 26.4mb and importing is allowed to 64mb at this point, which has changed from my previous upload attempt, am trying now and hopefully it’s successful

OK well some of the posts loaded, but there are still heaps of posts within the export file that have not loaded up during import, what could be the problem?

and I got an overhead on wp_term_relationships of 21B after import (so far – haven’t started editing them yet)

    on deleting some posts :

    wp_comments 816 b overhead
    wp_options 1.6 KIB overhead
    wp_postmeta 12.3 KiB overhead
    wp_posts 138.7 KiB overhead
    wp_term_relationships 2.3 KiB overhead
    wp_term_taxonomy 280 B overhead

each time I have an overhead in any table, my site becomes invisible to search.

    Thanks

although we can import the export file, over half of it won’t import and we can’t work out why. Any suggestions?

    Thanks
