This is my first real foray with WordPress. We actually use wp for our blog, but never really attempted to delve very deep into its full potential. We’re now in the process of redesigning our main site in wp, and have bought a nice theme that we’re working with. However, IE8 is having issues rendering the site properly. It seems to be pixilating the transparent PNGs that we’re using on our homepage. The slider also hesitates when animating, and the alt and title tags don’t appear in the main horizontal nav bar or social media links that we have in the header. Alt and title tags appear correctly in the footer, just not in the main nav menu or header area. In doing some research, I stumbled upon IE8s opacity issues with transparent PNGs and thought that might be the problem. However, searching for plugins that might solve the problem, Weins-IE-CSS3 solved the opacity issue but then it broke other parts of the theme, and we also got an error. I’ve seen some hacks referencing this problem but, since it’s painfully obvious I’m not a developer, I hesitate to make any changes to code without first getting the advice of someone much smarter than myself. I’ve tried to copy and paste a hack once already, broke the theme, and our host had to save the day by resetting everything. Thankfully I didn’t lose anything. Any help anyone can give would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!!!

No one here can help you with commercial theme issues, we do not have access to the source code. You should inquire with the theme developers for support, in theory that is in part what you paid for. Good luck.

That’s what I was I afraid of but I figured I would take a shot. No help from the developer just yet. They said that our site looks perfect in IE8 on their end. Thanks for responding at least.

Looks perfect on their end eh? FWIW, on my version of IE8 I do see stairstepping along image edges which is probably your transparency issue. Also none of the transition effects seemed to work at all, much less hesitate. I didn’t check the tags and such, as I had borrowed someone else’s computer that had IE8 to do a quick check. I’ve no idea at all about where to start solving your issues, just wanted to confirm I also see things are not right on IE8. Good luck with this, sorry I can’t help.

Thanks for taking the time to at least look. I really do appreciate it. It confirms my suspicions. And, believe me, I know that I’m being fed a line of BS from the developer as well. I take solace in the fact that I’m fairly certain that there is a solution to this…of course in the form of a hack or plugin of some sort. I swapped a few of the PNGs on the homepage with jpegs, and that solved the crappy image problem. However, I don’t want to use jpegs on the site, and that also doesn’t address the slider problems either. I also much prefer the flexibility that an image with a transparent background offers. Like I had mentioned before, I found a hack which instructed that I copy and paste into the functions.php folder. I did, and it immediately broke everything. After that experience, which scared the crap out of me, I am absolutely hesitant to do anything else without having my hand held throughout the process. There HAS to be a solution to this somewhere.
