    Hi,

I come here for a basic advice because I cant really see difference of usage in this case.

For a fashion ecommerce, I have to set year for products.
For exemple, product name is : “Tshirt xyz 2022”

Next year, my tshirt xyz will still exist but with little variation (new color for exemple or new fit but with the same name).
I will make a new product called : “Tshirt xyz 2023”

Goal : I would like to have a filter to see only 2022 or 2023 collection with a real field not a simple search like “2022”.

In this case, do you think Tag are the best option or attribute ?

    Regards
    S.

  • Hi @schogol

    tag or attribute

    That is an intelligent question.

Similarity: Both are ways to group products or relate products to each other.

Difference: Attributes offer the flexibility that tags do not offer.

→ “Filter Products by Attribute” allows you to select a specific attribute. If you add this widget to your sidebar, customers can filter products in your store based on the attribute.

→ To create a variable product, an attribute must first be defined for the product. These attributes can then be used to make a distinction between different variations. More info at: Variable Products.`

→ There is no hierarchy in tags, unlike categories.

Our illustrative documentation will help you understand this better:

<blockquote> Goal : I would like to have a filter to see only 2022 or 2023 collection with a real field not a simple search like “2022” </blockquote>

The easiest way would be have attributes 2022 , 2023 , and so on.

In your setup you can make good use of variable products also as that offers great flexibility and choices. In addition to the document shared above, the following one may be of help: https://woocommerce.com/document/variable-product/

I hope you find this information helpful.
