• Hello everyone,

I come to you with a great need of help.

    So here’s the deal :

I’ve been hosting my WordPress site for a few years now. It’s a football blog on which I publish articles. Lately, I haven’t been so productive and had a lot to do with my studies so I didn’t realize my hosting expired. The site went offline overnight, and by the team I realized and paid to get it back, it was basically erased. I managed to get back some stuff, but not all of it and the site doesn’t work as it used to.

I’m hosting on Hostinger. They’ve sent me data and backup files, which I’ve managed to reinstall -ish- but I’ve encountered problems. First, I couldn’t recover my theme, which I eventually managed to reinstall back, but now my main problem is with images. All my media are gone, and I can’t upload any. The error message is the same as when I tried to upload my theme back on WordPress : “Can’t create file uploads/2019/07. Is the parent file accessible in writing from server?” (the message is in French, the translation is probably poor, sorry about that).

The site used to work perfectly but now, I can’t make anything work. I didn’t get my site back exactly as it was when I subscribed back to the hosting service and since I’m really not that good with the tools — I can do WordPress, but I never needed anything more than the basic skills to run my website — I really need help.

I’ve asked for help on the Theme website’s support, and they’ve redirected me to this guide to fix my problem: https://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-fix-file-and-folder-permissions-error-in-wordpress/. I’ve done this on Filezilla, at least I think I did, but it didn’t fix the problem. Now, they refuse to help me since, apparently, my “right” to support expired.

I’m basically considering creating a whole other website as I’m writing this, but I’d rather try and fix the problem and learn a bit from that unfortunate experience.

Anyone kind enough to help and guide me through recovering my site would get my eternal gratitude. Of course, I’m available for further questions and stuff if my message wasn’t clear enough.

    Cheers,
    Alex

  • Call Hostinger(sp?) and ask them for help with this problem. It’s not exactly a WordPress issue where your WordPress is causing problems.

To fix the issue with your images, you’ll need to restore them from the files backup if you have one. Else you’re probably going to need to re-upload all your images.
