After upgrading to 2.6.3, I couldnt login with my password, but my site was still up. I tried one of the suggestions here to change the database password threough phpmyadmin. I guess I screwed it up, now my site is completely down.

After wasting a day, I paid my hosting acct to restore all files from the pevious night before I tried the upgrade, figuring it would put everything back to the 2.5 version, just like it was. This is a very simple blog with a static page as home page. Site is https://www.crestviewmarketing.com

They did the restore which I thought would take care of everything and I would just leave it alone, but I still cant see my site, getting “page not found”. It’s installed in the root and I see all the files with my ftp acct. The hosting acct os OK cuz if I load the old index.htm page, it comes up, so wordpress must do something that overrides the use of an index file and soething else is screwed up.

If I type https://www.crestviewmarketing.com/wp-login, it says “page not found”, but it is there!

What can I do? The hosting company says it is a WordPress issue.

I see “Error establishing a database connection”
something has been changed in your wp-config.php or you overwrote it with an old one

    Thanks,

Here’s whats happening now. godaddy restored files from when it was working version 2.5.3. I changed the wp-config file so that the password is correct. Now my site comes up OK. I can even log into the MYSQL database with the correct username and password (same password as wp-config).

So after the failed upgrade, its back to previous version 2.5.3.

The problem is I still got an “incorrect password” when I try to login so I got a new password via email.

    That got me to this:

    Database Upgrade Required
Your WordPress database is out-of-date, and must be upgraded before you can continue.

The upgrade process may take a while, so please be patient.

What does this actually do? Im afraid to do it because thats where it hosed my site earlier.

If I do this, is there a way to easily recover from it if it goes bad?

You mean it’s already updated even though I havent clicked on the “Upgrade WordPress” link yet?

im guessing someone else did if you didnt. you have three threads going, all about the same thing, ppl click links and stuff.

the earth didnt explode, so now you can move onto dealing with your password issue. Right? ??

Yea, I know, I screwed up. sorry.

After I got my reset password via email, its sitting there waiting for me to click that Upgrade Database link. So you think I should go ahead and do it now? I just know it screwed me up before.

By the way, Thanks for your patience. -:) This is the only thread Ive been updating now.

I wont do that again. I was just kinda panicking I guess.

After it said “update needed” and to click the upgrade database link, I did it, then it said “no upgrade needed”. I wish it would have just said that at the beginning.
    Everything seems fine again…
Just wonder if I should ever try to update it to latest versions again…
