HELP!!! My admin account user access was changed locking me OUT. WTH??

    The admin / owner user account for my blog was downgraded when I was trying to figure out how to add users and copied old user roles over – thinking it was a migrate tool. But nope! It copied the “member” permissions to ALL users INCLUDING all of the admin and owner users!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I am so freaked right now!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have “member” access to my website, zero admin access, and zero ways to fix this!

    When I tried deleting the plugin via FTP access, nothing happened!

    How do I get my user (OR ANY USER) to be an admin again? How is that even possible??!!! You guys had ZERO warning in place for this…. how do I fix??

    help me find the code in HTaccess or where-ever!

    Hi tajanator,

    Have you definitely deactivated UM via FTP? That should disable UM and allow you to login if UM is the issue.

    You can also go into your database and add an admin user. This article by WP Beginner explains how to do this.

    Thank you for replying so fast! Yes i did delete the whole plugin.. but I think that the problem is that it changed my user admin role to subscriber so it doesn’t seem to matter…

    There are no admins on my website now…

    I will look at that link and try to create a user (or fix my admin user) via mysql (which is exactly what I was hoping to find out). I will update afterward.

    IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks to your reply, and help from another feed, I am up back and running.

    Also thank goodness for phpMyAdmin. I was able to manually fix my role back to “administrator” via mysql through my host. ((Very glad that this is a back-end capability))

    Thank you for your fast response. I truly appreciate it. It isn’t super common to get a fast reply. Sad but true.

    SUGGESTION: The admin/owner should never be able to be downgraded… and if not that- maybe a popup warming? I really didn’t realize what I was doing, I thought it would migrate all of my standing user roles over.. but instead it changed ALL USERS to the “member” role which is only a Subscriber.

    So, yea. But it is fixed, no harm done thankfully. ??
