Help me with installing WP

  • Hello WordPress community!

    I have spent countless hours trying to set up my WordPress. I’ve tried a number of different themes, plugins as well as buying a theme for 45 dollars which has been a complete waste of money for me. I’ve checked guides, plugins etc. and yet I still find myself with a useless site which looks like balls compared to my poor looking Blogger, which I’m currently using. – I’ll explain why.

    I don’t know advance coding or scripting from scratch. I know how to identify codes, such as HTML or BCC code, for images, videos and use embeded codes and so on.

    However – I have found setting up a wordpress site impossible! None of it is user friendly and the only part I can change is the themes, change the title and header – that’s it! I can identify very few things to change, despite I’ve tried so many different themes.

    Adding a picture, or video, etc is impossible for me (Compared using Blogger, which I’m currently using), even just adding a new post is a pain in the *** – It seems WordPress lack tons of features which Blogger provides, (despite I’d imagine it would be the opposite)

    I do not wish to work in “blind-mode” so to speak. Which means doing a 100% code in a document, then upload it in a FTP server to see the result. So in case it’s not possible to make a fancy site (even from a template) without working blindly, please let me know – as then wordpress is not for me.

    However, everyone I speak with tells me, “adding images is EASY! Making posts with video attachments is easy – it’s super user-friendly” – Unfortunately, my experience is completely different, and despite many claim its easy, no one has so far offered to help me.

    For some reason I can’t find any logic to WordPress at all – But I know it can do pretty much anything you want, if you know how to use it.
    I obviously don’t.

    Hello Monsterbaby (Nice forum user name!) and welcome to the WordPress support forums. ??

    While that was an interesting offer (I’ve never seen an offer like that before) it’s not really appropriate and borders on offering to pay. Also these forums do not offer support via email, Skype, IM, etc.

    It sounds like you’ve already gotten a WordPress installation installed. Can you explain what image problems you’re having in a little more detail?

    I find that with the current version of WordPress 3.9.1 I can just drag images into the Visual Editor. That gets uploaded and I get a dialog box where I can select if I want. But I’ve also been using WordPress for a while so I may not be a good comparison…

    It’s a lot but it’s good information. Give that a read, it may sort out your image issues.

    Hey Jan Dembowski, and thank you for your reply.

    In my Dashboard, the only thing I can customize is the Title and the header image, font and color and then there’s a CSS editor – that’s it – It doesn’t matter what themes/templates I use, that’s the only thing, plus some other widgets I have no idea how to use. I only have a dropdown of 4 different font sizes, and I can’t even type in my own. Neither can I change the background, but I can only choose from pre-made backgrounds, and there is no option to add my own.

    Yes, it may be good information to some, in what you linked, but its absolutely pointless for me. I know what a button does if it says upload. It makes no sense you link me a tutorial how to use features/plugins I don’t have in my Dashboard.

    This is the exact problem, why I asked for a skype session, Whenever I ask help, people link me to guides which are so basic even a grandma knows how to get around it – yes it’s easy if you have access to the features, the problem is – I don’t.

    As I can understand asking for this type of help is against the rules, so I’ll take this elsewhere or stick to blogger.

    What else were you expecting? What theme are you currently using? Where did you download it from?

    WordPress is free software and this free, volunteer-staffed forum is the only support resource available via www.remarpro.com. If that is not suotable for your needs, you may want to consider hiring someone who can provide one-to-one support instead.
