  • Did you customise the Twenty Ten theme?

Yes I had someone do it for me

Would it have been the update to 3.02 or could it have been the update to the plug ins? Is it normal for updates to the theme to change all the customised features of a site? I thought I had already updated the theme once ( not sure about it) and it didn’t change it? How can I tell which updates I have done to date?

Argh, if it wasn’t 7 in the morning on a Sunday I would be getting a wine out of the fridge:((

When WordPress is updated, the default theme (Twenty Ten) is also usually updated and any customisation to that theme will be over-written. For this reason, it is recommended that you consider creating a child theme for your customisations.

Unless you kept a copy of your custom theme on your own machine, I’m afraid your customisations have been lost.

I have a style css so do I follow what it says in the Child Theme info by creating a new directory and calling it Child Theme, does this then fix my problem?

You need to follow all of the instructions on that page.

    Thankyou.

Sorry just one thing I don’t understand?

I have a style sheet called styles.css which has all the custom information on it and then I have style.css which is the wordpress twenty ten. If I change the styles.css file to style.css in the child directory will it still work on my site?

Or will I have to change something else as well? I hope that makes sense, I am new to all of this:((

    Thanks

Since I haven’t see your custom style.css, I’m not sure if it would work. However, even if it did, you end up in exactly the same situation next time you upgraded WordPress.
