• Hello,

So, I’ve been scouring the web for the past few days. Feels like I’ve looked at every theme there is, but I cannot find what I’m looking for.

We are starting a new home page (and I’m in charge of the creating of this website), which will contain a whole lot of stuff. Reviews, annals, guides, videos (let’s play videogames, unboxing), personal thoughts about movies, video games, TV-series, books and so on.

We’re going to have around 6 categories (Reviews, Annals, Videos, Movies, games and TV). The idea is to have the categories, one of each, listen on the front page with the latest post visible.

Let me take an example. The latest post in the Review category is called “The Hobbit review”. This is what we want to show on the front page, along with the latest post wihtin the other 5 categories.

Am I making any sense? Probably not. Here’s a picture (not very visually striking):

We also want the posts to go in to a corresponding page (accessible from the Navbar on top), listing all the latest posts in that category.

The thing is, most themes doesn’t let you tinker too much with your header, which annoys the hell out of me. I suppose everything is possible, but I’m very limited when it comes to code (css, php), which is why we want to use WordPress.

We are willing to spend some cash for it. Maximum $49. This is a one time cost. We don’t want subscriptions .

Anyone with any pointers? Would be eternally grateful.

    Bless

Yes, pretty much anything is possible and you can totally modify the header and anything else about a theme.

All of what you describe is standard WordPress or easily done through plugins or some modifications.

It’s unlikely you will find any theme that is exactly what you want right out of the box.

We only recommend themes from the repository on the site here, or listed on the commercial vendors page.

Using themes from other places is not recommended – perhaps this will be enlightening:

Okay, thank you. Since I’m not very great at css (best case scenario I can change a color), do you have any tips about plug-in? I suppose it’s a question for the Plug-ins section, but I feel bad creating threads all over the place.

I need plug-ins for a few different things, mainly sidebar widgets, such as a nice looking “Most recent post” and “Most recent video”.

The plugins section is really for answering questions about plugins. You’d need to search the plugins page for specific needs. Widgets are standard in pretty much any theme – and you can generally change the name on them. I’d suggest you find a theme that is close to what you want and get started, and then, if needed, look for plugins.
