Help me please – help help. custom header

Okay, I am new at wordpress, but know basic web design. I wanted to make my wordpress page look more like my home website, I am using the wordpress for a News area.

I uploaded a new header with the same size, and file name, of the default header, by ftp to the same folder, directory, as the default header.

In my admin area I can see the header i uploaded when I select the default header, if I change the colors I can see the new colors of another default header. If I select the default lighht blue header, and hit update, on the wordpress public page it is a square blue shape, with no words, and my custom header does not show.

How can I get the new header to show on my wordpress page if everything is the same directory, file name, etc? Can someone please help. Ronnie Lees.
