Help making Sidebar Asides work

I tried doing what the Codex article said regarding Sidebar Asides, but after pasting the code into my sidebar, nothing showed up. I made sure the category ID # for my Asides was correct, and I tried putting the code inside UL and LI tags, but still nothing. I’m a newbie, and if anyone could give me a hand it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
