help integrate ads in my template

    I would like to place a table with adsense to show before the posts. I have placed the adsense code in the index.php template to show the effect I am trying to produce.

    I know I am doing this all wrong. Adsense not only shows up on the top but is also showing other adsense ads with funny colors in the posts below.
