Help! How to make posts in index.php an "excerpt"

I’m using Toolbox theme, and don’t know how to manipulate the loop.php code to make the articles on index.php excerpted. They are excerpted fine on search.php and and category.php

Here is existing loop.php code and don’t know how to fix the first part that refers to index.php to make the articles excerpted.
