Help! “Fatal error” after update

    (sorry for my english) I just updated the plugin but I can not get into the admin area anymore. The message “Fatal error: Can not use function return value in write context in /web/htdocs/www.ilbazardimari.net/home/wp-content/plugins/akismet/class.akismet-admin.php on line 1060” appears
    I’m in a panic, what should I do?

  • I had the same error, and it persists after re-installing.

    To get your dashboard back, go to your /web/htdocs/www.ilbazardimari.net/home/wp-content/plugins/ folder and delete/rename the akismet folder via your web or FTP file manager interface (hopefully you have access to that, or you will need to reach out to your host for support).

    Same issue here. FTR: Running an older wordpress version (4.5.14). Issue occurred after I just upgraded the Akismet plugin from 4.0.3 -> 4.0.5.

    Thanks for the reply. In ftp it did not make me delete the folder so I renamed it. Now I can finally enter the site.

    Yet my worpress was updated, I always update everything immediately!

    @procifer, server is running PHP 5.4.45 (debian build – 5.4.45-0+deb7u14 to be precise).

    php version 5.4

    Getting same error. my site remains available but admin to dashboard attempt delivers the error message.

    PHP 5.4.19 version here with the errors.

    I just upgraded to 5.6.27 and was able to successfully activate.

    Hopefully this will help narrow it down to help others. ??

    Thanks so much for the additional details everyone. We have a new version prepared and will be releasing it shortly.

    Same error[1] here with v4.0.4a7[2] on WordPress v4.9.6 on PHP Version 5.4.45. phpinfo() available on request.

    Akismet plugin version 4.0.6 has now been released and should address the issues you were seeing with PHP versions 5.3 and 5.4. Please let us know if you still see problems with this new version.
