I tried to update to 3.0.3 and it would not do the automatic update. So, I backed up and did a manual update. Now, I get this error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_initial_constants() in /public_html/wp-settings.php on line 24

Help please anyone!! My entire blog is down. I am trying to restore from backup, but that doesn’t seem to be working either.

    Thanks,
    Laura

  • wp_initial_constants function is is wp-includes/default-constants.php. If your install has gone wrong try installing just the wp-includes directory and see if that helps.

If you have a backup it is probably better to delete the contents of wp-includes first, or you could just try re-installing the defaults-constants.php file.

I auto-updated and get the following when I try to access the blog:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: wp() in …/wp/wp-blog-header.php on line 14

I also get a blank wp-admin.php page when I try to access that page.

The auto-updater appeared to stall during update. I hope it’s just a matter that I need to upload some of the 3.0.3 files.

wPcoMuser:- just try manually updating the wp_includes directory.

If you have disabled all plugins etc. before upgrading then I would try renaming or moving any themes you may have and use twenty-ten as the theme. This way only the defaults will be used and as long as there are no active plugins anything else that may cause issues will be ignored.

wp() is also in wp-settings so try that again after updating the files.

Please backup your version (copy then rename will do it) of wp-config.php just in case you accidentally overwrite it.

THANK YOU!! Seriously. You just saved me!

I restored from backup, then was still having issues, so deleted the wp-includes and re-uploaded that one.

Presto! Entire site up and running again.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

You are a lifesaver for this non-techie gal.
