As of Tuesday night, I suddenly can’t edit old posts or write new ones; always get the error message below:

    Line: 173
    Char. 290
    Error: Access is denied
    Code: 0
    URL: https://loopyknits.com/wordpress/wp-admin/post.php?

I haven’t made any changes to WordPress wp-admin files in that time period, so does anyone have any idea what would have caused this, or how to fix it?

FYI, I posted on this yesterday but the problem has since spread; originally, I couldn’t open a draft post to edit it. Now I can’t even write a new one.

My hosting provider says it’s a WordPress problem, of course, and can’t help me.

Update: I backed up everything from my WordPress folder that I have at my hosting provider, then tried replacing just the “post.php” file with the same file from the WordPress installation apge. This fixed the problem … temporarily. I was able to post successfully to my blog once this morning. Then when I tried to add a very short post later, I got a similar error message pointing to a DIFFERENT WordPress wp-admin file:

    Line: 173
    Char: 290
    Code: 0
    URL: https://loopyknits.com/wordpress/wp-admin/post-new.php

So I tried replacing “post-new.php” with the same file from the WordPress installation page.

Didn’t help. My WordPress blog is currently COMPLETELY unusuable.

    FYI, I’m running v. 2.1.3 of WordPress.

That seems highly odd to have that long of a line. Plus I can’t see where the error would be. So I’d recommend re-uploading fresh copies of the entire wp-admin directory.

Make sure that you upload the same version as you already have. Don’t try to upgrade to fix it.

I was afraid of that! I’ve never done an update by myself, so wish me luck. *gulp* Thanks for the feedback.

NO! Like I said, “Don’t try to upgrade to fix it.”

Get it working as it is first. Then you can do an upgrade. But first you want to make it work normally.

So figure out what version you have, download that version, and replace the relevant files with fresh copies. Don’t try to upgrade and just hope everything works out… That way lies madness.

Hi, Otto — thanks for the reminder! I dis as you said — now that I’ve replaced the wp-admin directory, it is once again working beautifully. Thx. — Carolyn

I have the same problem and cannot fix it. When I try new copies of the wordpress blog it works. Then I do something and it gets “damaged”.

I thought it was the (modified) theme (Cutline) but it was not. I thought it was the Stats plugin but it was not.

Maybe I spotted the problem: importing from my blog on wordpress.com gets the error.

    What can I do?

I need to import the info from the blog.

    Marco
