Help creating a monthly archive with nested entries

  • hey there, i’m sure this is a relatively easy thing to do for someone who has some general knowledge of SQL queries, however, my knowledge is limited.
    I would like to create a monthly archive page listing each entry for each month, including an excerpt and a custom field.
    What I want would look like this:

    April 2007
-Entry 1
-Entry 2
-Entry 3
-Entry 4

March 2007
-Entry 5
-Entry 6
-Entry 7

February 2007
-Entry 8
-Entry 9
-Entry 10
-Entry 11
-Entry 12

January 2007
-entry 13

    And so on..

    Any help would be appreciated!!
