• For weeks now I have been experiencing a major glitch that has basically prevented me from updating my site at all. I can not type new posts or pages: The text box is there, but blank and no cursor will even appear. This happens even when I try to edit existing pages. In addition, I cannot reply to comments, because the “reply” button in non-functional. The problem is definitely in the Dashboard, because I can reply to comments when I “Visit Site” and go straight to the actual pages to reply. There is, of course, no way for me to add new posts or edit pages this way, though. So I’m totally stuck.

I’ve searched the forums and seen that this problem has happened to several others in the past, and I’ve tried all the solutions I’ve seen offered to others, but none have worked for me.

    Here’s what I’ve attempted already:
    Tried multiple different browsers.
    Tried multiple different computers.
    Tried re-downloading the latest update.
    Tried disabling all plug-ins.
Tried adding the “Use Google Libraries” plug-in.

None of these has had any effect. Please offer any new suggestions if you have them. I’m getting desperate and have reached the point where I’m worried that I may need to take down the site and start from scratch–which I absolutely do not want to do.

    Hi there!

Are you able to switch to a core, bundled theme like Twenty Sixteen to see if that clears up the issue? From the sound of it, it could be a rogue script that is being loaded on the admin pages. Sometimes theme authors forget to hook to the right page when they try and load their theme options.

I would recommend switching the theme and deactivating all your plugins to see if that clears up the issue first.

Let us know if that works!

Update: Apparently, the cursor is in the text box, but it is invisible, as is the text that I type. But if I type a new post, even though I can’t see it on the dashboard, it will appear on my site if I publish it. This is still a major problem, because I’m typing blind and also have no buttons to add images or any other media, but maybe it will help in figuring out a solution?

Thanks for the suggestion, Jose. I tried switching the theme to Twenty Sixteen and deactivating all plugins, but no change. The dashboard is still glitched. I still can’t type new posts or edit pages or respond to comments. Basically, I have a non-functioning website. I’m at a loss. I have no idea what else to do. Please, if anybody can help…

Dear friends, the same problem! Could somebody advise something? I have this problem, because I had malware on my site and needed to clean the /plugins folder, and may be I deleted other needed WP files! What files may be we need to reinstall on our hosting?

You guys might need to do a CLEAN reinstall.

Meaning: you don’t overwrite. You wipe, and you upload.
    – First download wordpress.zip from the homepage of www.remarpro.com
    Next, by FTP:
    – delete /wp-admin/
    – delete /wp-includes/
And then you extract to your disk the wordpress.zip that you downloaded, and you reupload to your hosting account the two /wp-admin/ and /wp-includes/ folders

Not a big deal if your website is offline for just five minutes in the process, right.

Another less radical solution, that has a verrrry slim but not entirely nonexistent chance to work: go to the Users administration page, and create yourself a new user with admin rights.
Log out. Log in as the new user.
Does that new user have the same issue ?

Otherwise, you may want to ask your web host to check for your apache error log, and search for whatever shows up with your own IP adress (you’ll have to give it to them, services like whatsmyip.net will give it to you.)

    Sabinooo, thanks!
    another user suggested good thing:
    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.
    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and the wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

Many thanks! That’s what I did, except the first suggestion! everything works!
Thanks, esmi! I did install WP Security Plugin afterwards to prevent such virus attacks in future, but I think I should check wp-content folder concerning viruses again…

I’m having this problem with 4.7.2 but I am NOT NOT NOT a coder, just a blogger. I cannot see my type in the post area. I tried deactivating plug-ins and clearing my browser cache. I am not not not not not (did I say not?) a coder. I do not know how to code. WordPress update 4.7.2 apparently caused this and I have no ability to code to fix it so how do I fix it? Thank you.
