HELP! Cannot Update Plugin; Blog is totally down!

Using the latest version 4.5. I tried to update a plugin and it just keeps trying to update without any success. The entire main blog when you try to access it says that is currently unavailable and in maintenance mode. I went into FTP access and totally removed all of the files for that plugin; and it still did not resolve the issue. I am unable to access the admin screen or anything else. Any help would be appreciated.
