• Hello all,

I’m not sure what version of WordPress I’m running. I am accessing a website from Google Chrome and when I go to the wp-login page (or even the site’s URL in general) I receive the taunting and mocking message “Oops! This link appears to be broken.” I tried adjusting the .htaccess file to allow all users to read or write, which I believe is numerically represented as “666,” but this still has not changed my outcome.

The thing that throws me a loop is that I can’t even access the login screen for the site. What am I missing? Also, I am fairly new to web design so any info or details you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help!!!

    Andre E.

  • Where did you install WordPress on your domain?

Unfortunately I wasn’t around for the initial setup of WordPress – I just came onto the project a week ago or so.

There is one FTP hosting the information for several sites. From what I understand, the website that I am working on is attached to a particular folder. Within that folder is a /wordpress subfolder which contains nothing but another folder named /wp-content, which then leads to a chain of folders which lead to /themes/default/images

Is this site part of a multisite WordPress installation?

oh boy… i wouldn’t know… i can say this though, the only folder named WordPress is in the location i specified previously, which leads me to believe that is the only location it has been installed

should i see component files for wordpress?

Yes – two more folders (wp-admin & wp-include) that each hold a number of sub-folders and approx 2 dozen files in the root WordPress folder.

yikes! well i certainly dont have that

ok, so it seems at this point that i dont even have WordPress installed to my FTP… but i have been using it… is is possible that WordPress is installed “offshore?”

or do i at this point need to reinstall WordPress and start from scratch?

is is possible that WordPress is installed “offshore?”

WP can’t be installed elsewhere unless this is part of a multisite network – in which case the core files would be located closer to, or in, the root server folder. I think you need to verify exactly what kind of WordPress site has been installed before going any further.

ok, i think i have found the folder in which the WP content is installed – it is installed in a seperate string of folders, so im assuming there is probably no connection between the two

is it irrational to consider copying and pasting this info into the folder associated with the site?
