I don’t know what happened, but nothing is showing up onscreen. The site isn’t loading. All the files are there and in place. Is there a way to replace the files one folder by folder in case something got corrupted? PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP! I’ve been finessing my site for a week until it was just right, and now this. UGH. And I’ thought Word Press was better than blogger…. somebody keep me from going back to the dark side….

  • Sounds like there could be a php error in your theme – can you access the wp-admin? Link?

I tried pasting the code from another blog with the same format and it worked briefly, then i was told that php wasn’t installed… so basically, all the work I did for the last two weeks onthis site was pissed away, I had to reinstall php, which overwrote everything and I’m now rebuilding EVERYTHING from scratch…. would really llike to avoid this again. suggestions?

1 – I hope you yelled at the host.
2 – posts are in the database and would not be affected
3 – if you had no php, how did wp work before? (see 1)
4 – Blog this and ask if people grabbed your feed.

I hadn’t really gone live yet, so nobody but me had the feed.

I’m hosting it on my yahoo site (they offer it and its seemed like a better way to build a site). So yes, I did yell and bang my fist and all that…. I’m really a novice at this. I don’t know where the database is or where it went. Yahoo installs php in the folder when you install the blog/wordpress, so It was there, but something happened to it. I could see the remnants in the cache folder, but being rather new to all this, and needing my site back up TODAY so it can go live tomorrow, I had to reinstall…

Here’s a thought. Is there any reason why tossing a folder of html files into the the root folder of the blog would mess up php? Maybe that did it… See, my old site has been indexed by search engines, and people find relevant pages, but now when they click through to them, they get bupbkis, and the 404 generator doesn’t seem to work all the time, so I put the pages back into this root folder so that even if they didn’t show up, a custmomized 404 page would automatically pop up for them. How, if at all, did that mess things up.

PHP cannot be messed up by you (or me on my hosts) – it’s their fault this went bang.

As for search engines, can you use their cached pages?

Not sure what you mean. The old html pages were hosted in the same root folder as the blog, and when wordpress was installed, it wiped them out. I still have them, but when I put them in the folder they can’t be viewed, or seem to create trouble like what I experienced… so for example, one of the pages listed on engines is:booking.kfarcenter.com/afrosemitic.html.
right now, it resides at kfarcenter.com/acts/afrosemitic.html but when someone clicks thtough from a search, they don’t get anything. Is there something I don’t know about how to deal with this.?

This has happened to me twice now..
I have a CMS home page, WordPress as a part of the site, and a second install of each for testing. There have been times when I chould not bring up any “.php” site. The problem was with my webhost.

The second time this happened I contacted them and they said they were having problems with the (my) server. Once those problems were resolved my site(s) were back.

Still don’t know WHAT the exact problem was, but it was on the hosting side.
