• I am so technologically challenged I hired someone to help with my site. She took my money and did not finish building the site. I need to back up the website files (her work) and not just the content files before I fire her… so that I can prove, if need be, what she did and more importantly did NOT do. How do I back up everything? I have spent weeks studying word press books and can’t figure this out.

  • Well it depends if the site is online yet or not. Assuming that it is:

You need to know the server name, login, and password for your web host. If you bought the hosting you should have this info. If your employee bought it you’ll have to get that from her. Then it’s just a matter of using an FTP client like WS FTP which can be downloaded free here.

Once you log on to the server just download every file from the server to your PC and you’re all set.

Hope that helps…. let me know if something is unclear.

dont forget to back up your database as well. this could be on another server or on the same one. but you will need to log into the database and download that as well. if your hosting company has phpmyadmin installed you should be able to back up the database from there
