Hi, I was using classic wordpress editor then I was trying block editor for a few new posts.

I switched the writing options to let user choose Classic or Block.

Then, I made a few block editor post drafts, testing the formatting and latest post blocks.

Today, when I checked the old posts published with Classic Editor all the articles looked bunched up with no formatting. Like all the CSS wordpress automatically adds when type articles disappeared.

I checked the HTML versions of the articles and the only tags left were H2, P, UL. That’s it.

All the line breaks within the paragraphs are gone so all I see are H2, the a large block of text. Then the next H2 and a square block of text again.

    This just goes on.

    Please help!

I’m panicking because I have nearly 1,000 articles.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Dear arzoo,

I hope you are doing great!

There are two possible solutions to your issue.

    1. Clear your browser cache and the DNS cache

    2. Deactivate your plugin and test if anything is conflicting. Do ensure that you are using the updated version of the theme and all your plugins are also updated.

Let me know if this works for you

Hi, thanks for the tips asuperlifestyle!

I’ve deactivated through the plugins one by one but the same things seem to keep happening.

I’ve also cleared the cache and tested the site on 2 mobile phones and all are showing the same non-formatted form with no CSS.

I’ve likewise updated the theme. I’m using Astra by the way.

From the Classic Editor, I can easily tell something’s up because when I check the text tab in the WordPress writing page and return to Visual tab it takes really long to load the original stuff I typed in.

Normally, it just goes back and forth between Visual and Text smoothly.

That said, the visual tab looks “right”, ie the paragraph formatting is there with the bunches of sentence split up.

But when you look at the text tab, only the basic html tags like H2, <P>, <ul) are there. The CSS and spacing, height WordPress normally adds are all gone.

Hope anyone has ideas on how to fix this.

PS. don’t know if this helps any.

But when I look at page source, there are still some CSS on top. But once you get to the content part, all of them are just plain text.

Only the H2 have the span class id, etc.

On the other hand, when I look at my other sites, their content parts have <p> in every link. Plus, some <p> have class id ,etc right after.

    Hi Steve,

Are you seeing entire paragraphs after the H2 or are you seed smaller paragraphs of 2-3 lines each. My original is the latter.

For example, does it look like

    Repotting

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

In my correct formatting it should look like

    Repotting

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s,

when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book.

    Then the next H2 block.

the <p></p> tag is missing from all the tag. wpautop() should have added<p> tag in all the text blocks. that’s only for that specific post not for another post.

Please switch to text then switch to visual mode and save the post again. hopefully, everything will be back.

    Hi guys,

Thanks so much for all the help.

I ran through all your suggestions twice and did everything one by one. It was the code snippet plugin I used to try to add spaced to classic editor in block editor.

Thanks again to all I can’t thank you for the suggestions, time and effort in helping.
