Just uploaded version 1.2 – Multiple Catalog Update
Catalogs can be added in the catalog admin area. Select the current catalog in the select menu to the right of the main navigation menu. (It is only available on product, category, and subcategory).
Feel better soon sculptgal!
Thank you, EvWill for the cool multi catalog update and the get well wishes. Nyquil is keeping me awake. And the updated program was way to tempting and I had to play with it. The multi catalogs work! Yippee. ??
What I have noticed so far –
1) I was not able to move an existing category or subcategory from the old catalog to the newly created catalog. I had to delete the old category and recreate the category under the new catalog. This is not a bad thing, it will cause me to be super organized from the start.
2) I thought I would have to add the tag or short code id=”1″ for the new catalog when I called it from the existing page. But it doesn’t seem to matter whether the id=”1″ is added or not. It works either way. Thus, for example –
[catalog-8 id=”1″ cat=”Dolls” sub=”Madame Alexander”]
works the same as
[catalog-8 cat=”Dolls” sub=”Madame Alexander”]
Okay back to playing! THANK YOU, EvWill!!! A future modification that might be useful is a way to call up the newest items added to either one or all catalogs on a page. I don’t know if it would be set/arranged by a certain date, or by the newest products added…. heck I don’t even know if it is possible. Blame it on the Nyquil, lol1) Yes I didn’t add the ability to move categories and products in between catalogs, but that is definitely a future update, I want to make a simple drag and drop type system.
2) I made the default id=”1″, so if you don’t include the id it includes the id=’1′ catalog. (At least that’s how I hope it’s working!)
I really like that idea of adding a newest items function. Something like [catalog-8 newest=”date”] could call up the newest products and sort them by date. Will definitely be in the next update or two.
EvWill, I am glad you liked the idea for the newest items function. I think it would be a feature that would cause people to return more often to your web site.
The Multi Catalog function is working well
As I wrote before I am learning WordPress and what it can and stubbornly can’t do. lol or maybe it’s just me who is being stubborn. When I create a WordPress Page, the form requests a Title and a Description. When I create a Catalog 8 Category, the form requests a Title and a Description.
Okay, so now when the script is called – ie:
[catalog-8 id=”0″ cat=”Trading Cards”]
there is a redundancy – when the page loads, there are 2 “Trading Cards” titles showing up (one for the WordPress page created and one for the Catalog 8 Category created). I deleted the first description on the WordPress page, so now only the Catalog 8 Category description appears. If I don’t give the newly created WordPress Page a Title, then the page won’t appear on the main page. So, for the WordPress page to appear it HAS to have a Title. It doesn’t have to have a description.
So then I tried changing the Title of the Catalog 8 Category to it’s description and leave the Catalog 8 Category description blank. I hoped that there would be one Title and one Description to the page when it loaded. . Nope that didn’t work. When I removed the description from the Catalog 8 Category, that category and product doesn’t work at all. Nothing is seen.
So for the Catalog 8 Category to work, BOTH the Title AND the Description must be in existence. So, how to get rid of one of the Titles on a page….? Hmm, maybe if a Title has two words, I could use the first word for the WordPress Page, and the second word of the Title for the Catalog 8 Category? But that won’t help when a Category title is only one word. Dilemma time.
sculptgal, does the settings page in the Product Catalog 8 plugin help you at all? You can hide the category title.
EvWill, I have two words to say – BLESS YOU! lol@myself
Problem solved and so quickly and beautifully.Hi EvWill, I downloaded the Product Catalog 8 (1.2) plugin and did all it says in the Instructions
