• Hi.

WordPress’ site health feature alerted me for having too large autoloaded wp_options. There are two huge rows. One is caused by Spectra (already known issue). The other one is caused by Astra. The option called astra-settings is 431 kB (!) in size.

Is this a known issue, just like the Spectra issue?

  • Hi @karlemilnikka, sorry for the delay.

As you may already know, autoloaded options in WordPress are configuration settings for plugins and themes that load automatically with every page view. This design ensures that settings are always readily available, contributing to a smooth user experience.

The increased visibility of autoloaded data might be due to changes in settings over time, which is normal behavior in WordPress. With the introduction of WordPress 6.6, the Site Health tool began highlighting these settings more prominently, leading to greater awareness of them.

Our team is continuously working on optimizing Astra’s performance, including refining how autoloaded settings are handled. While finding the perfect balance between performance and reliability can be complex, we are committed to ongoing improvements and will keep you updated on our progress.

    Kind regards,
    Herman ??

    Thanks for the reply, @bsfherman.

I mainly asked because your colleague (over in the Spectra Facebook Group) said it was a temporary workaround that should be fixed. Is it the same case with Astra?

Regarding the auto-loaded database options, they are temporarily necessary to prevent site issues while old code support still exists in Spectra. We are maintaining these options to ensure your website runs smoothly during the transition. After a few more releases, we will notify you in advance and then clean up all the auto-loaded options and old UAGB code support.

    Hi @karlemilnikka,

No, it is not the same. We know that every theme and plugin has some options that are set to auto-load. These auto-loaded options were available previously as well, but due to the new WordPress Site Health report, they have come to the user’s attention.

We will evaluate if there are any options that can be avoided from being auto-loaded. And FYI, it’s separate to-do for every product.

    Kind regards,
    Herman ??
