• I was wondering if anyone is using the Headline Image Plugin? If anyone is not familiar with this plugin you can find it here: https://www.coldforged.org/archives/2005/02/18/new-image-headline-plugin-is-finally-ready/

My problem is I am just having problems understanding the installation process. I asked for help in the comments section on the plugin page but that was days ago and nobody been commenting.

I have tried to set it up 3 times and it never works. If anyone has had luck installing this I’d appreciate it very much if you could go through step-by-step with me as to what files go where, and what goes where in my index.php file.

Thanks so much! Sorry to be a pain!

Can anybody at all help with this?

    Thanks

It looks old. I personally use sIFR because it’s kept up to date and widely supported.

Generally, as one that uses a healthy dose of plugins myself, if they are from 2006 I am wary, 2005 and I’m scared.

sIFR? Is it a plugin? I’ve never heard of it? Can you direct me to it. Thanks

I think I’ve used the plugin you refer to. I will check when I get home.

im affraid i can’t specifically help, but if you have only just started your website. then you could choose to use a different theme, as some themes have the plugin alreday installed.

for example i use mistylook by sadish, all i had to do was resize a picture to fit the same dimensions as the header and, upload.

(my website for an example of mistylook is https://www.whitehallpost.co.uk)

@grampamorts.. I think you have it mixed up as to what I mean. I don’t want an small image beside my title for each post. I want to turn my post titles into images so I can take advantage of using different fonts even if they are not installed on peoples computers.

@jwurster.. thanks. I’ve been working at this for days and still can’t figure it out.

I checked it out and that plugin is still working for me. When you went to the admin options page, did you make any changes? But what you might have missed is to look through the code and replace the function call “the_title()” with “the_title(‘-image-‘)”. These are typically found in your main index page and the single post page.

One other thing is that your server must have GD and FreeType support.

I use Dreamhost. I’ll email support and make sure they have the GD and FreeType Support. Thanks

Dreamhost has the GD and Free Type Support. So that covers that question.

Did you change the function calls?

I use the Image Headlines plugin from Coldforged, and even though it is old, it is awesome! It is probably my all-time favorite plugin (along with PodPress).

I’ve had various troubles setting it up, but the moment I got it working every time I have celebrated and thought, that was so easy afterall. It’s a matter of inserting that -title- thing into your theme’s templates (Main Index, Single Post, Search Results, and Category Templates); and also a matter of getting the Cache URL exactly correct. I’ve had to mess around with that Cache URL before, but I think it shows you an error message (under WP Admin > Options > Headlines) until you make it right.

Post again if you still have a specific problem getting it to work. Also post your site under Your WordPress and show off your work when you get a cool colorful headline font working for ya!

Hi, I have just installed this plugin and it is working ok for post titles but what I would really like to change is the main title of my blog. Does anyone know how to do this using the Headline Image plugin? Thanks!

Can anybody at all help with this?

    Thanks

Yes, galadriel#, first I need to ask: do you want this plugin to render your Blog Title dynamically — meaning, even if you change the blog title, it changes again?

Or could you possibly just make your blog title in the font/graphic once, and leave it the same? This seems easier.

You must read the instructions from Coldforged, he tells how to render ANY word or phrase. I cannot explain it better than he explains on his page.

Now, what you’re wondering is how to replace your blog-title with the rendered phrase. To do this, it depends on what theme you use, but probably you need to go into your theme’s header.php, find the code that displays the blog title, and replace it with the code that renders the phrase you want.

Therefore, instead of calling a dynamic “blog title” variable which reads your title from the database (whatever you typed in the title field), instead you will simply put Coldforged’s code for rendering an exact phrase, in the same area of your theme. In this method it won’t read your “blog title” field, but will instead render the exact phrase you tell it, per Coldforged instructions.

if you still can’t make it work, post again with specifics of what you tried

Hi Dgold, Thanks for answering. I have tried what you explained and it works fine. What I could not figure out yet is how to do it dynamically…

Have you got any idea on how to do this?

    Thanks again for your help.
