Hi, I downloaded the theme and the functions.php file seems to be an older version of the default theme. If I were you, I would create a new functions.php file that contains only the following code:

if ( function_exists('register_sidebar') )
    register_sidebar(array(
        'before_widget' => '<li id="%1$s" class="widget %2$s">',
        'after_widget' => '</li>',
        'before_title' => '<h2 class="widgettitle">',
        'after_title' => '</h2>',
    ));
?>
