• I recently upgraded my account to WordPress 3.0.5 and changed my template to Twenty Ten. I uploaded a custom header image. It looks fine in FireFox and Safari but it is shifted to the right in IE.

    My site.

    How do I fix it?

    Thank you!

  • Looks fine in IE 8, and compatability mode. You might want to try using a better doctype though, that may be causing the issue on older versions of IE.

But don’t edit the Twenty Ten theme! Your changes will be over-written the next time you upgrade WordPress or the theme. For this reason, it is recommended that you consider creating a child theme for your customisations.

What DOCTYPE do you recommend and how do I find that?

I usually use the xhtml transitional doctype.

    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"

But if you follow the link to A List Apart, it will explain the different kinds of doctypes, and why they are important. As esmi said, it is recomended to create a child theme so that you don’t lose changes you made during an upgrade.
