• Hi
I am trying to use the header.php file in a child theme as a precursor to placing Google Adsense code on my website.

I have copied the header.php file from my parent theme to the child theme, but when I go to Appearance-> Editor on the WordPress dashboard, the header.php file does not show up under templates on the left-hand side of the editor.

I checked using both C-Panel and FTP, and I can see the header.php file in the child theme.

I have no idea what I have done wrong and why I can’t see it in the dashboard.

    Your assistance would be appreciated.

  • The header file will be called “Theme Header” in the list of files, not “header.php”, so make sure you’re checking for that. Also double check that “Select theme to edit” is set to the child theme, and that the Child Theme is activated.

But if you have FTP access, I’d suggest just using that to edit the file.

Hi Jacob and thanks for the quick response.

Yes, I checked all in your first paragraph.

Regarding FTP, are you suggesting editing the file on my computer then uploading the edited file via FTP? I’ll give that a go.

But I’m still puzzled as to why it doesn’t show up in WordPress.
