  • Did you figure it out, because you site – https://abekislevitz.com/ – looks exactly like the picture.

No I have not Neo. Well.. I added a slider but that isn’t the same thing.

Here, look at my website: https://www.adriangigliotti.com.au it’s similar but different. I’m trying to replicate it.

The site you linked that you want your site to look like is using a specialized Child Theme on top of the Thematic theme.
You are using the Maskitto Light theme.
To look like the one you linked you would have to create a child theme for it.

Thanks for the reply, how would I do so? Or is there another way to make a banner similar? It doesn’t have to be exact. ??

The best way is to create a Child Theme for any changes, as when the main theme updates, all the changes you may have made to the main theme will be lost.

So anything I do to a child theme WILL make me loose changes to the main theme?

Nope… making a child theme alters the main theme without making any changes to the main theme – so when the main theme updates (…and it will) your changes stay intact.

The priority of loading the files is: the main theme first and then the child theme.
So the browser reads the main theme and then alters what it was going to display by what is put in the child theme.

    Think of it like coffee.
You get it black and then add cream and sugar.
The black coffee remains but is altered by the cream and sugar.
    Black coffee – main theme
cream and sugar – child theme

If you HAVE made changes to the main theme already, then when it updates, you would loose them anyway – so take any changes you made and put them in a child theme.

Oh yes, I understand. Thanks for the example for clearing it all up for me ??

So just install Thematic as a child theme and (somehow) add the banner? ??

So just install Thematic as a child theme and (somehow) add the banner? ??

No… Thematic is a complete theme all by itself. The other site owner had someone (or himself) design/develop a child theme to go “on top of” the Thematic theme. The Thematic theme is the base for the designed child theme.

I wouldn’t use the Thematic theme if I were you because it hasn’t been updated since: “Last updated: April 9, 2013”.
Which means that it probably will not work with the present version of WordPress.

I understand. Is there any other decent way of getting a banner like that? (as I said before it doesn’t have to be exact). But the sliders isn’t really working as I intend it to.

In your Dashboard Menu (on the left), have you looked at Appearance > Customize or Appearance > Header?

    Thread Starter sinfulangle

    (@sinfulangle)

Yes, there is decent customization, but you cannot even change the size of the banner. :\

    That is my biggest concern.

Did you install the plugins required by the theme?
If so, you should see, in the Dashboard Main Menu – “Maskitto Light Options”.
    Go to Blog.
    Turn on “Blog Slide”.
    Upload “Blog Slide Image”.
The “Blog Slide Height” has a slider that goes up to 560 pixels in height.
    Save Changes

Yes I actually have edited that and that is all well & good… but you cannot do so with any other page besides ‘blog’.

Because, as far as I know, it is the only page in thattheme that has the slider. The other pages do not. You would have to create a Child Theme and alter the code of all the other pages to add that slider to them.
