• First I want to say that I am a first time user to WordPress, in fact I just installed it earlier today so this might be a no brainer type of question.

For some reason when I type my addon address into my address bar everything seem to work fine except the blue background isn’t displaying itself (which makes the header text invisable since its white). my addon address is https://www.mymoviereviews.com. What has really got me confused is when I type in the full path to my site: https://www.bradfiles.com/reviews it shows up fine. Now I could easily redirect my movies url to my bradfiles url through cpanel (which I did and that works) but then it displays the full site path in the address bar, which i just plain don’t like, I would like it to just display the addon url.

Any help would be much appreciated
    Thank you in advance

Also wanted to add that I tried changing the WordPress address (url) to https://www.bradfiles.com/reviews in the options menu, that doesn’t seem to have had any effect, after looking at the sourcecode for the site everything seems like it should work fine, but its just not :/

ok, lol, one more thing to add! I also tried creating my own header, i figured I could live without the old one. It sais in the source code that you just need to drop a file into the images folder called “personalheader.jpg” heh, and that didn’t work either, not for either one of the sites. https://www.bradfiles.com/reviews still shows the original header, and the addon domain https://www.mymoviereviews.com still shows nothing but white text in the header.

Kubrickr Changes Header in Kubrick will help you to change the header image without getting into the code of your page.

The rest of the help will have to come from elsewhere, as I don’t understand what an “addon” address is. I think you mean an additional domain name. I’ve never heard “addon” used like that.

Since you are just getting started with this, I recommend that you visit the WordPress documentation site: https://codex.www.remarpro.com for information on most of your other questions.

I haven’t used the addon domains through cpanel, but do use subdomains. In the case of subdomains, if you do not care to use the mydomain.com/subdomain, then you can use subdomain.mydomain.com/. As I said, having never used addons, I don’t know if this is the same for them, but you might give it a try.

ok, just in case anyone has the same problem I want to post the solution I found. It all has to do with hotlinking. First of all an addon domain is a domain that can be used to access certain files and folders within your server, meaning you can setup multiple websites using a single server. I had originally registered https://www.bradfiles.com so that I could use it as a family site, pictures, schedules, whats going on in my life, etc. shorty after I decided to setup an affiliate site, I wanted to setup another site using the same server but I didn’t want people to know that I was using the same server for my family site as i was using for the affiliate site, this is why I didn’t want to use https://mymoviereviews.bradfiles.com I guess it just looks unprofessional in my opinion. Anyway, the reason my addon domain wasn’t displaying images was because I had hotlinking disabled, when I did so I didn’t think to put my addon domain into the “Urls to allow access” section. After putting https://www.mymoviereviews ‘AND’ https://mymoviereviews.com into the “Allow” section everything works just as it was meant to.

Hope this post saves some people the headache that I went through trying to figure this out, and thanks for all of you that tried to help me with this problem.

    What do you mean: “addon”?
    Are you referring to “subdomains”?

After scouring the web for a working solution to this problem, I figured it out for myself. You have to go to the options page in the blog setup and enter your *addon domain* into the boxes labelled WordPress address and Blog address. This will solve the problem right away.

Oh, and to answer this question:

    What do you mean: “addon”?
    Are you referring to “subdomains”?

No, he is referring to addon domains. An addon domain is one that you buy and use with the same hosting account as your primary address, so https://www.mymoviereviews.com will automatically forward to bradfiles.com/reviews, but the address bar will still still begin with mymoviereviews.com as long as they user is exploring a page within that directory.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! I have been trying to figure out this problem ALL DAY, and finally decided to Google ‘wordpress “addon domain”‘ and found your post.

Then I wasn’t sure where the “Urls to Allow Access” section was, but once I Googled that, I saw it was in my CPanel, and clicked the HotLink Protection icon. Once I added “mydomain.com” and “www.mydomain.com” to the “Urls to Allow Access” list, the problem was solved. Woo-hoo!
