Hello. Great theme, thank you for it. I’m a little confused on header images sizes though. In the “Header Image” section of my WordPress dashboard, WordPress indicates, “Images of exactly 1280 × 416 pixels will be used as-is.” But when I upload an image of that size, the image is cropped at the top, and the menu covers up a portion at the bottom. Plus, when I do an “Inspect Element” on the header image, it indicates the image is only 1214 x 243 pixels. Yet there appears to be no cropping in the x-direction. Both of these are unexpected considering the WordPress instructions on the header page. I am told that the theme is causing this behavior. Is this so? If so, why, and what are the exact mechanics so I can plan future header images appropriately?

    My site is https://www.panyadee.ac.th/test/

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi cag8f,

Thanks! The text in the theme customization is displayed by the WordPress admin because 1280×416 pixels is selected as the recommended size of header images in Hemingway.

However, since the size of the header is variable depending on the size on the device it is displayed on, and the header image stretches to the full size of the header, some parts of the image will be cropped.

Let me know if you have further questions.

OK thanks for the info. I think I’m beginning to understand.

    >> the size of the header is variable depending on the size on the device it is displayed on

OK I understand this. But can I calculate/look up *exactly how* the header size changes with device? For example, if my monitor is displaying at a resolution of 1366×768, how big will the header be? Is this standard information that I can look up somewhere, or does it vary per theme?

The header image size varies from theme to theme. I’ve released an update that will make the header size of Hemingway stay the same on all devices over 700px, so the header should be a little easier to work with once that’s live. Should be within a week.

Good to know. But until then, where can I find all the different header sizes (and the corresponding devices) that the Hemingway theme currently uses?

The sizes are not based on specific devices, but on screen width. A phone with a 320px screen serves a different sized header than a phone with a 360px screen, etcetera.

Right, got it. I was just asking for the complete table of all the potential screen widths and their corresponding Hemingway header sizes. It’s not terribly important though. Thanks for your patience.

No worries. Last clarification though: the padding of the header is 10 percent of the width, so the padding is different on a 320px screen and a 321px screen (or a 322/323/324px screen, etcetera).
