Header Image Cut Off

I’m trying to add a header image to my page.
I have sized it to exactly 1000×250 as instructed
When I add it to the page the image is cut off and the text overtypes it.
If I remove the header text the image is almost hidden completely.
With only the header text it wraps the text unexpectedly at about 1/4 of the header width.
Im having a hard time figuring out how to make this header look at least half decent. Any ideas where I’m going wrong?

I don’t have a side menu, only a top menu.
Im not using the sliders thing or anything fancy. I’ll do that later once I’m happy with the general functionality of the site.
I have also created an icon/logo and it is only displayed as I tiny image on the browser tab where I’d expect the fav.icon to go.

I’m using the current free version of Enigma Parallax (7.4)
