• Hi all.

A couple of days ago I upgraded from 2.7 to 2.8. No big deal, fully automatic procedure.

I lost a couple of widgets in the process; but that was easily fixed.

What wasn’t so funny was losing all my customizations to the theme. I had changed many colors, column widths, etc. All of those were gone in 2.8. So I put 2.7 back…

Question: how do I avoid this? I have full backups of everything; but simply putting those back obviously doesn’t help.

Can anyone tell me which files exactly to put back, after the upgrade? Or: is there a way to save the theme settings only?

    Thanks,

    Erik

  • Had you modified the default or classic theme? These modifications can be lost on upgrade unless you give your modified theme a new name (in styles.css) and a new directory name.

I modified the default (Kubrik) theme.

Thanks for your tip. I’ll see what I can do with that, sounds easy enough.

Well, I upgraded again. This time with a renamed themes directory, etc.

Had to put my widgets back (just like last time) but boy this time (in 2.8) it’s a heck of a lot easier!

I’m a little disappointed that the Pages order is still buggy, but it’s a minor issue…

Woops! I gotta take that back, about the Pages order. Obviously I missed something; and it’s working A-OK now!
