I am trying to exclude a string of words from my website’s search results. The string of words is “not plated or filled.”

I sell vintage gold and silver jewelry, and some of the descriptions I made included the words “not plated or filled.”

    Example:
This is a solid 14k gold diamond ring. It is not plated or filled.
    – I write the descriptions this way to reassure customers that the solid gold items are not, in any way, plated or filled. But because I include the words “not plated or filled” in the description of the solid gold jewelry, the solid gold jewelry items are returned in the search results when I search for plated and filled jewelry!

I tried to put the phrase “not plated or filled” into my stop words index, but this did not work. I’m hoping there is a more elegant solution to my problem other than having to edit each of my products manually.

You can use the [noindex] shortcode:

This is a solid 14k gold diamond ring. [noindex]It is not plated or filled[/noindex].

Stop words only work on single term level. You would need to add “plated” and “filled” as stop words, and then you couldn’t ever use them as search terms.

I thought so, I’ll just have to restructure some of the item descriptions then. Thank you for the reply!
