Here’s my situation. I’ve got wordpress up and running via Bluehost. I would like to change the theme. I currently have the black letterhead theme on my blog over at WordPress.com and would like to use the same one again. I’ve followed the codex directions but the theme is not showing up on the theme page as an option.

I uploaded the black letterhead zip file. I extracted it. It’s sitting on the file manager page in cPanel but I can’t get it to show up on the www.remarpro.com theme options page. What am I not doing?

  • www.remarpro.com? Don’t you mean your own domain name?

Sometimes, zip distros nest the directories. Check via FTP and see if you have something that looks like this:

    /themedirectory
    –/themedirectory

You should just have one theme directory. Hope this makes sense.

Thanks. It’s sitting in the theme directory (labeled as you have pointed out) but I am unable to do anything with it. It’s still a zip file. Should I decompress it before I place it in my theme directory?

You know I don’t even know if I’m asking the right questions. It’s tough being so new at this.

It’s simplified by doing a little reading.

Hot damn! I swear I read those exact directions before and followed them to the letter. Ah, well. It worked this time. Thank you both for your help.

I don’t know if it had anything to do with it but I didn’t have an FTP account on my computer the first time I tried it all. After I got my Filezilla account (more tribulations in that, as well) and did the same steps, it worked. It’s like magic at this point in my understanding. “How did it happen? Magic, I guess.”

One day it will all make sense and I will be in position to offer sage advice to the lost and flustered.

    Thanks again.
