• Hello

I was wondering how could I make my site so that whenever a visitor accesses the main address for my site (ex, “www.mysite.com”), either through organic search, directly thought the address bar, or linked from another site, have my visitors see one page of a few variants I’ve developed, in order to test their effectiveness with Google Analytics.

I know that there are a few plugins out there that allow me to test different sites, but apparently they have to have different addresses each and the page I’m creating will be directly accessed through the one unique url, which is the domain itself.

I don’t know if I explained myself right.
    Your help is appreciated

  • Hi, when you want to A/B test a page you always have to create 2 different pages that usually (it’s not always like this, but it’s the most common setup) are accessible from different URLs.

So let’s say that you want to A/B test your home page

    www.mysite.com

and you made two variations of that page

    www.mysite.com/home1
    www.mysite.com/home2

If you use an A/B test plugin/service, it’s the plugin/service that randomly shows to your users the “home1” or the “home2” variation, whenever they try to access the URL “www.mysite.com”.

So if I want to visit “www.mysite.com” and you have an A/B test plugin running, sometimes I get redirected to “www.mysite.com/home1” and sometimes to “www.mysite.com/home2”.

I just wanted to clarify this, because you don’t have to worry about the different URLs, it’s the plugin that takes care of everything and redirects your users to one of your page variations.

Having said that I suggest you to read this post that reviews some of the best A/B testing plugins for WordPress, to understand how they work and to find out which one is the best one, based on your needs

And this is a more in-depth explanation of the Google Analytics Content Experiment tool, if you were thinking to use that one

    Hope it helps:)
