• Trying to install 2.8.4, and I get the following:

There doesn't seem to be a wp-config.php file. I need this before we can get started.

I downloaded from WordPress. Extracted into my root directory. It just gives me an error. I realize the lack of wp-config tells the system it’s a new install. I tried the wp-config-sample, putting in the correct database/url information and that didn’t work either.

  • You have to rename wp-config-sample.php to wp-config.php.

I realize the lack of wp-config tells the system it’s a new install.

No, it doesn’t. The lack of a wp-config.php just makes it not work.

I did change the wp-config-sample to wp-config. I put in the correct database information, and I got some weird loop error. I’ve never had to do that before. It’s automatically taken me through a process where I entered the database information on screen.

    on screen = in browser.

a couple of things to check:
Do you have the correct permissions on the wp-config.php?
is there an .htaccess file that may be doing something?

I have changed no server settings nor had to. I have a pretty open environment with my host. There is no wp-config.php right now, and WP won’t create it when I hit Create a Configure File.

    There is an .htaccess file.

Just an FYI, as I try to create and change wp-config.php manually, I eventually get this error:

    Redirect Loop

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

The browser has stopped trying to retrieve the requested item. The site is redirecting the request in a way that will never complete.

What happens if you rename ‘.htaccess’ to ‘no.htaccess’ to disable it temporarily?

    (@jim-r)

I’ll try it, but it’s actually named .htaccess.dist

I get the same thing, which is nothing.

My ISP can’t even get this thing to install properly.

    What is going on????

Are you installing a windows server? If so are all the requirements met?

If you are installing on a linux server and still having problems drop me an email and I’ll take a look for you.

That error is gone. Now I’m trying to reinstall over an existing database. The homepage is just blank. I tried installing over a fresh database, then copying the old database into it. Same result.

BTW…the URL it’s at now is hoosierhoopsreport.com. Long story, but that is my root directory.

And that url shows me a site now, where https://www.indybasketballevents.com
    still gives a white page???
