Have web host already. Do I still need to dl Wamp Server?

    Hello everyone. I’m a bit new at this so sorry for sounding… well… noobish.

    I am currently learning how to create a WordPress site via. Lynda tutorials. One thing I notice is that the man in the tutorial says that I should down load a Wamp Server. Now I have a web host already that is up to code for hosting a WordPress website, so wouldn’t that take care of what Wamp Server would do?

    WAMP Server is convenient for installing a “web server” environment on your home pc or laptop so you can run web apps like WordPress locally. It’s usually used just for development purposes, so unless you have a need or a desire to do that, there’s really no reason to install it.

    Would you suggest dl WAMP for a professional use? Otherwise I’ll just stick with what I have at present. Currently I’m creating a site for a small production company that plans on becoming bigger in the future.

    The only reason you would even consider installing WAMP is if you want to experiment with WordPress or develop WordPress themes and plugins locally (on your home or office pc). WAMP does not interact with your live WordPress site in any way. It really has nothing to do with installing or interacting with a WordPress site that is installed on a remote web host.

    Sure. If find you have a desire or a need to run an installation of WordPress locally, it’s a pretty easy way to set up an environment where you can experiment with WordPress without affecting your live site in any way. I don’t think I would ever recommend using WAMPServer as a live production solution, but it can be a pretty handy thing if you want to see how things look and feel before putting up a live version.
