    Hi,
I am having so much trouble trying to install wordpress.
I have the domain (from GoDaddy) and hosting (using HostBig) and have finally uploaded all the wordpress files to the CPanel hosting server thing.
This has taken me a couple days, using a combination of CyberDuck and the CPanel File Manager, as I kept getting error messages saying the network was down and I couldn’t connect.
I’m now trying to actually install wordpress on the website. My website is reinventionofnormal.com and from what I gather I should be able to go to reinventionofnormal.com/wp-admin/install.php and there should be the wordpress dialog so i can log in etc – but there is literally nothing there.
I can’t work out where I have gone wrong and it’s driving me crazy, this whole thing has taken so much longer than I thought it would! I am enjoying learning new bits and pieces but now I just want to be able to make it look good and useable as a website, so if someone could help me that would be wonderful!

    Thanks in advance,
    Juliet

  • First take a look here:
    https://www.whois.com/whois/reinventionofnormal.com’

I do not know who or what ‘NAMEDC.COM’ might be, but that is where your domain URL is currently pointed (with GoDaddy as its Registrar) and it ultimately needs to land at the HostBig nameservers. So, maybe you next either need to tell ‘NAMEDC.COM’ about that or else send it to HostBig directly or simply wait for its DNS to propagate if all of that is already actually as it should be.

    Thanks for your advice.

This is from the email I got when I signed up with HostBig:

    “1. Nameserver Settings:
If you have purchased your domain from us you can ignore this section, we will set the nameservers automatically.
Once you have uploaded your website to our server you need to contact your domain registrar and set the nameservers of your domain to ours:
    1.namedc.com
    2.namedc.com
Some registrars require the IP address of our nameservers, they are:
The IP address for 1.namedc.com is 198.136.54.12
The IP address for 2.namedc.com is 198.136.54.14
Please note it can still take 24-48 hours after you set the nameservers for your domain name to ‘propagate’ (register around the Internet) and become fully active, there is nothing we can do about this, it’s just the way the Internet works.”

I was having trouble with earlier in the install and emailed the HostBig help team to ask and they told me it was because I hadn’t changed the nameservers – which I then did about 3 and a half days ago so I would guess that the DNS should have propogated already?
I didn’t change the IP address of the nameservers though, as I couldn’t see a place on GoDaddy to do so and since the email from HostBig said some registrars require it, I presumed that GoDaddy was one that didn’t…could this be where the problem lies?

I would guess that the DNS should have propagated already?

Yes, and it seems it has. The “Who is?” link I had posted is showing a result consistent with what your host had said you should do.

I would guess not since the “Who is?” shows as it does.

I have just done some poking around and your WordPress installation is definitely there in your public “root” folder, but ‘reinventionofnormal.com/index.php’ is not happening for some reason. If I were you, or unless someone else here might already know what you need to fix, I would ask your host to see why ‘reinventionofnormal.com’ is not landing at index.php as it should (or at least whether it is) since that is how WordPress starts.

    > I would ask your host

Agree, definitely worth speaking with your host to see what they say I think.

    Though can I ask…

Have you uploaded all the WordPress files to your server via FTP? Or used a one click install of WordPress with your host?

I ask because from the above you have not mentioned doing this…

    Thanks for your replies.

Have you uploaded all the WordPress files to your server via FTP? Or used a one click install of WordPress with your host?

Yes, I uploaded all wordpress files to the server, some via CyberDuck and then some using file manager in CPanel because my connection kept timing out using CyberDuck. But they were checked and double checked, all files were uploaded.
I wish I had used a one click install but I didn’t think HostBig offered one, its only now that I discovered they offer installation through Softaculous Apps Installer and wish I had used that.

I just contacted the host and said this:

I am trying to install wordpress. I have uploaded all the wordpress files and am now trying to actually install wordpress on my doamin – by going to reinventionofnormal.com/wp-admin/install.php using the wordpress dialog to log in etc – but there is literally nothing there.
I have changed the nameservers to the correct ones and DNS has propogated so that isn’t the problem.
My WordPress installation is definitely there in the public “root” folder, but ‘reinventionofnormal.com/index.php’ is not happening for some reason.
Please can you look into why ‘reinventionofnormal.com’ is not landing at index.php as it should (or at least whether it is) since that is how WordPress starts.

    And their reply was this:

It seems that you have not restored the WordPress database “reinvent_ronblog” so you are getting the installation page. Hence, please import the database or else you can upload the mysql database ‘reinvent_ronblog’ file under your account so that we can restore it for you.
Please check and confirm the same at your end.

I don’t really know what their reply means though.
I made the database reinvent_ronblog right at the beginning of starting this but then deleted it as I realised that it would mean to see the blog you would have to go to reinventionofnormal.com/ronblog. So I didn’t think it was there anymore.

Please forget that last message…I just went to reinventionofnormal.com/wp-admin/install.php and the wordpress install screen was there!
Not sure what I did, or if the tech support at HostBig did something but it is working now.

Thanks so much for all the troubleshooting help.

Awesome, glad it is sorted. Happy blogging! ??

    hello world, it working
